A Message from Chris Wink, Technical.ly CEO
(updated March 12, 2020)
To our Community,
As a news organization, we are as dedicated to accurate reporting as we are to taking seriously the health and well-being of our community. Like all of you, we at Technical.ly are watching closely the developments with COVID-19.
We are committed to ensuring you have both a safe and enjoyable experience at the 10th annual Philly Tech Week, presented by Comcast and organized by Technical.ly. Presently, the weeklong event is still planned to take place from May 1 to 9 across multiple venues in Philadelphia.
We understand the seriousness of the COVID-19 situation and are actively reviewing and preparing for the necessary precautions we may need to take. We are following global, federal and local authorities such as the WHO, CDC and the City of Philadelphia to ensure accurate information sourcing and compliance.
At this time, we have set Friday, April 3 as the final date on which we will determine if PTW would need to be delayed. Once that has been determined, we’ll send an email to our community, including sponsors, speakers, and event organizers, and share on our website and social media channels.
In the meantime, we feel it is our duty to share some basic protective measures people can take against illnesses, such as:
- Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
- Wipe down your tech appliances frequently with disinfectant cloths
- Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol
- If you feel sick, stay at home!
Additionally, you can find a wide variety of resources from the CDC at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov.
Please note that Philly Tech Week consists of more than 100 events, many of which are relatively small and local, across dozens of locations. For the larger conferences that take place during the week, we are investigating live streaming and other contingencies. You are still able to register for events, and if the event is postponed, registrations secured for any date would carry over to any new date. While we welcome you to attend, we understand the seriousness of the situation and will always respect and support the decisions of our community and authorities.
If you have any questions, please contact us at events@technicallymedia.com.
